🤔Reflection:

Most of us have a wish list a mile long: six-figure side income, deep relationships, a body we’re proud of, respect from our peers. We chase strategies, hacks, and 5-step plans hoping the universe finally hands us the prize.

Les Brown flips the script. He says the prize was never “out there” to be grabbed. It’s a direct reflection of the person staring back in the mirror right now. The income reflects your current resourcefulness. The relationships reflect your current emotional maturity. The health reflects your current daily standards.

In other words, wanting doesn’t move the needle. Becoming does.

Looking At The Man In The Mirror

Reading books (learning) and implementing what I learned from them (taking massive action) have proven to be very beneficial in my life. And, they can and will do the same for you, too. Knowledge and action are the catalysts to your “becoming” moving “your” needle.

🔥Just one book completely changed the course of my life forever. It’s the very first one on my suggested learning list here (opens in a new tab). Because of reading that one little book, and then, implementing (taking action on) what I learned, the retirement nestegg I spent multiple DECADES building more than doubled in a matter of months. Let that sink in for a minute. I spent a 35 year career building that nestegg. I doubled it in a few months because I read a book and implemented what I learned. 🤯And, it’s still growing at a lightning-fast rate in comparison to what it grew while I was still playing the Rat Race game (← Robert Kiyosaki - Rich Dad, Poor Dad reference).

I should have retired a hell of a lot earlier than I did! But, we don’t know what we don’t know. I didn’t read Peter Lynch’s book when he published it. Nope. It took me 25 years to find it. The big takeway though is that I actually took what I learned and put it to use! If I would have just read the book and done nothing else, (or worse yet, bought the book and never read it) nothing else would have happened. I’d still be rowing that boat I rowed my entire career. Knowledge without action is just a waste of our time. And, without the correct mindset, you will never sail past mediocrity. Remember that.

🏆Why This Can Be Your Superpower

When you accept that life is a mirror, you stop wasting energy begging the reflection to change and start working on the only thing you actually control: You.

People who live by this principle quietly pull ahead of everyone else because they quit trying to negotiate with reality and start upgrading their identity instead. They ask, “Who would I have to become to make this new reality inevitable?” then they go to work on that person. Every. Single. Day.

Creating The Perfect You

In today’s world, most people allow themselves to become side-tracked by doom-scrolling TikTok and escaping reality with mind-numbing sitcoms and dead-end video games. Doing something fun every now and then is fine. Letting that kind of crap rule/ruin your life while you could (and should) be creating your perfect life with your perfect combination of knowledge and action. Make a committment to yourself right now to making this your superpower and creating the perfect “YOU.”

Identity-based habit research (Dr. Benjamin Hardy, James Clear, and studies out of Stanford’s Persuasion Lab) shows that when you tie behaviors to “who you are” instead of “what you want,” completion rates skyrocket 200–300%!

Why? Your brain hates hypocrisy. Tell it “I’m a healthy person” and suddenly skipping the workout feels like lying to yourself. Tell it “I’m a prolific writer” and staring at a blank page feels like betraying your own identity. The behavior follows the identity almost automatically. Wild, huh?

🧬Stories That Bring It to Life

  • In 1968, a broke 23-year-old janitor named Harrison Ford decided he wasn’t “an aspiring actor.” He became “a working actor who just hasn’t been discovered yet.”

    Kind of reminds you of what I said in last week’s newsletter about my response to people calling me a a “wannabe” because I started out as a jail deputy but wanted to be a patrol deputy, huh? I wasn’t a wannabe. I was a gonna-be. And, I fulfilled that promise to them!

Harrison Ford turned down steady jobs, built his own cabinets to pay bills, and showed up to every audition as the man he intended to become. Less than a decade later, the world met Han Solo. And, that legend still lives on today all over the world. Talk about building a legacy!

  • Sara Blakely wasn’t “someone trying to sell an idea.” She became “the woman who was going to change how every woman feels in her clothes.” She faxed herself reminders every day that said “I am Spanx” until the identity stuck. And a billion-dollar company followed in the following months and years!

  • Chris Gardner (the real Pursuit of Happyness) didn’t chase brokerage licenses while still thinking of himself as homeless. He started speaking, dressing, and studying like the top 1% of stockbrokers while he was still putting all the pieces together. All while sleeping in train-station bathrooms. His external reality caught up fast.

🏃‍♂️How to Start Today - Your 7-Day “Become The Person” Challenge

Writing Your Single Identity Statement In Present Tense

  • Pick ONE result you want most right now (more money, better health, deeper relationships - choose only one).

  • Write a single identity statement in present tense: “I am a ___________ person.”
    Examples: “I am a $250k-earning entrepreneur.” / “I am a calm, fully-present partner.” / “I am a strong, energetic 10%-body-fat person.”

  • Every morning for the next 7 days, write that statement on a piece of masking tape and put it somewhere on your mirror. Read that statement out loud in the mirror each day. Then, immediately take ONE 5-minute action that the person you just claimed would naturally do (send the cold email, drink the green smoothie, text the heartfelt message).

  • End every night by writing proof: “Today I proved I am ________ because I ________.”
    Do this for seven days and watch how fast the gap between who you are and what you want starts closing. Finding your Pursuit of Happyness… 🕵💪🫵🏼
