This week, we’re diving into Mindset & Action.

đŸ”„Quote of the Week:

“Some people want it to happen. Some people wish it would happen. Some people MAKE IT HAPPEN!” - Michael Jordan

đŸ€”Reflection:

Picture this: You’re 25, newly married, new baby, new town, zero job(s). The baby is hungry and screaming. The bank account is hungry and screaming. The young wife is hungry and screaming. Most would just scroll through Indeed and the other job boards, skip the jobs that “aren’t interesting”, and then send a few rĂ©sumĂ©s, and pray that someone hires them.

I didn’t. I walked into a Goodwill thrift store, bought a $10 suit and a $5 briefcase, printed rĂ©sumĂ©s at the library and stuffed them into that new-to-me briefcase, and then began my trek of door-to-door campaigning for a job.

I began out on the west edge of town. My plan was to knock every single door until I had worked my way into the downtown area. If I hadn’t landed a job yet, I would rinse and repeat from a different direction. Finding a job WAS my job until I found one. Not “the” one. Just “any” one. We were desperate and I wasn’t about just settle for going on assistance! I treated it like everything was on the line. Because, it was.

First stop: Pizza Hut. The Pizza Hut Manager was standing behind the register when I walked in. I walked up to the counter, looked him square in the eye with a big smile on my face, extended my hand to shake his, and said, “Hi, my name is Grant, and, I need a job. I would love to work for you and I can start right now!”

He had a look of surprise on his face as he began to smile. “Go sit in that corner booth and I’ll be there in a couple of minutes.”, he said.

When he sat down, he explained to me that he had no openings. But, he also told me he’d never seen a prospective employee wear a suit. He created a part-time dishwasher spot for me, right there on the spot and promised me the next full-time slot that became available. I started the next morning at 10:30. One year later, I was the manager of that restaurant.

That’s a “Make It Happen” mindset. No permission. No perfect timing. Just thinking outside the box and taking massive, aggressive action. No one is going to save you. You have to save yourself. Figure out what you want. Brainstorm ideas on how to get it. Have AI help you with that brainstorming session. And then, go make it happen!

Your turn: What’s the $15 move that could change your reality this week? And, if it doesn’t happen this week for some reason, you are going to keep pounding away until it does happen, right? RIGHT!?!

🏆Why This Can Be Your Superpower

“Make it happen” is the ultimate cheat code. It:

  • Bypasses gatekeepers (you are the gate-opener)

  • Turns scarcity into leverage (no job? create one)

  • Compounds courage (one bold move → your next bold move)

Stanford research shows us that people who take immediate micro-actions after a goal are 3x more likely to successfully reach it. You don’t need more motivation. You need motion. Start ugly. Start now. Your reality is waiting. But its deeper than that.
This mindset is a force multiplier across every domain of your life:

  1. Career: The average American changes jobs 12 times. Makers don’t wait for LinkedIn pings—they engineer the offer (custom pitch, in-person drop-in, value-first demo). A 2024 LinkedIn study found 68% of hires come from non-posted roles—jobs that didn’t exist until someone made the case.

  2. Money: Compound interest is math; compound initiative is magic. The maker who cold-emails 10 local businesses with a $99 “website refresh” package lands one client → $1,188/year → reinvests in ads → 3 clients → $3,564. That’s not luck; that’s leverage in motion.

  3. Relationships: Want deeper connections? Makers don’t “hope” someone texts back. They host the dinner, send the “thinking of you” package, or drive 3 hours for coffee. A 2023 Journal of Personality study: Proactive outreach predicts relationship satisfaction 4x better than passive waiting.

  4. Health: Wish for six-pack abs? Makers schedule the 6 AM gym slot before life fills it. One 2022 meta-analysis (80,000 participants) found the #1 predictor of fitness consistency wasn’t genetics or time—it was pre-commitment rituals (packed gym bag the night before = 91% show-up rate).

  5. Legacy: History doesn’t remember the “almosts.” It remembers the doers—the ones who printed rĂ©sumĂ©s on library printers, who taped flyers to dorm doors, who sold hats from duffel bags. Your kids won’t retell your intentions. They’ll retell your stories.

And, the hidden payoff? Every “make it happen” moment rewires your identity.

Neuroscientist Andrew Huberman (Stanford) calls it “effort-based identity formation”: The brain tags you as “the person who shows up in a $10 suit,” and suddenly all future decisions default to action. One year after my Pizza Hut pivot, I wasn’t just a manager—I was the guy who makes shit happen. That label opened doors I didn’t even knock on. Bottom line:

Wanting is free. Wishing is cheap. Making costs $15 and a little bit of your pride. But, it buys you a life where you write the script.

Your reality isn’t a lottery ticket. It’s a construction site. Go grab the hammer!

🔬The Science Behind It

A 2023 Psychological Science study tracked 1,200 job seekers. Those who personalized outreach (walk-ins, custom pitches, etc) landed interviews 5.2x faster than online applicants. Why?

  • Reciprocity trigger: Humans reward effort. The Law of Reciprocity is a social norm that suggests when someone does something for you, you feel obligated to return the favor. This principle is often used in personal relationships, business, and marketing to encourage mutual cooperation and support. Most people don’t even realize they are doing it.

  • Signal strength: A suit + handshake = “I’m serious.” Strong signals produce greater results.

Your brain releases dopamine on initiation, not completion. The résumé stack in the $5 briefcase? That was the win. The job was the bonus.

🧬Stories That Bring It to Life

Four Americans who didn’t wait for it to come to them. They manufactured their big break:

  1. Brian Scudamore – 1-800-GOT-JUNK?

    • Age 19, broke college dropout in Vancouver (but U.S. expansion in mind).

    • Needed cash. Saw a beat-up pickup hauling junk.

    • Move: Spent his last $700 on a similar truck, hand-painted “The Rubbish Boys,” parked outside McDonald’s, and offered free removal for drive-thru trash.

    • First day: $120. Today: $600M empire across North America.

“I didn’t wait for customers, I went to where the trash was.”

  2. Daymond John – FUBU

    • Sewed 80 hats in his mom’s Queens house. No stores would stock them.

    • Move: Stood outside the Colosseum mall in Jamaica, NY, selling hats from a duffel bag for 10 hours straight. Made $800/day.

    • Spotted by LL Cool J → music video placement → $350M brand.

“I sold the dream before the factory existed.”

  3. Trish Dowling – Vital Proteins

    • Chronic joint pain, no collagen market in 2013.

    • Move: Drove to Chicago health stores with homemade samples in Ziplocs, begged for shelf space. One GNC manager said, “If you hit $10K in 90 days, I’ll stock you.”

    • She camped in the parking lot, demoed to every customer. Hit $12K.

    • Today: $1B acquisition by NestlĂ©.

“I didn’t pitch the product, I pitched the pain relief.” (Sell the sizzle, not the steak.)

  4. Nick Huber – Storage Squad

    • Cornell student, needed summer cash.

    • Move: Printed 5,000 flyers, taped one to every dorm door on move-out day offering $20/box storage. No website. Just a burner phone.

    • First summer: $98K revenue. Now: 40+ college campuses.

“I turned cardboard into a logistics empire, one flyer at a time.”

đŸ’ȘYour $10 suit moment is out there. Go find it!

🎇Your Timeless Takeaway

Dreams don’t die from lack of talent, they die from lack of traction.
Michael Jordan didn’t wish for rings. I didn’t wish for a job. We made the first move.
Your reality isn’t coming. You’re building it. One knock at a time.

“The future belongs to those who show up in a $10 suit.” - Wise Words Weekly

The Pareto principle, also known as the 80/20 rule, states that roughly 80% of effects come from 20% of causes.

"If you're Noah, and your ark is about to sink, look for the elephants first, because you can throw over a bunch of cats, dogs, squirrels, and everything else that is just a small animal and your ark will keep sinking. But if you can find one elephant to get overboard, you're in much better shape." - Vilfredo Pareto

📖 đŸ“™A Great Book To Read On This Topic":

The 10X Rule: The Only Difference Between Success and Failure
Author: Grant Cardone

Why It Fits Your “Make It Happen” Mindset Like a Glove
Grant doesn’t sugar-coat: “Wanting is for losers. 10X action is for makers.”
He obliterates the “realistic” myth and shows how massive, immediate, obsessive effort turns dreams into your reality, âšĄïžlightning fast.

  • My Pizza Hut story? That’s 10X in a $10 suit.

  • Daymond John sewing hats at 2 AM? 10X.

  • Trish Dowling pimping her homemade samples in Ziploc bags from a parking lot? 10X.

3 Takeaways You’ll Steal Today

  1. Set targets 10X bigger, then act 10X harder - average effort = average life.

  2. “Dominate, don’t compete.” Knock on 100 doors when 10 feels “enough.”

  3. Burn the retreat plan. All-in commitment is the only insurance policy that pays.
