Intro

Hey there, friend!

Imagine this: you’ve just binge-watched three hours of “educational” videos, yet tomorrow you couldn’t explain a single concept if your life depended on it. Sound familiar?

Ever felt like you've watched hours of tutorials but learned nothing? 🤯 Break the cycle of passive consumption and start mastering your focus. 🧠

Richard Feynman nailed it: “Knowledge isn’t free. You have to pay attention.

In our always-on world, the price of wisdom isn’t dollars, it’s attention. And, most of us are still trying to buy millionaire mastery with pocket change.

This week we unpack how to pay the full price, why the Feynman Technique is your secret weapon for how to pay attention to gain knowledge, and how embracing this attentive mindset turns the price of wisdom in a distracted world into your greatest return on investment.

Stick with me. By the end, you’ll have a simple system to stop leaking focus and start stacking real understanding, exactly what Richard Feynman’s advice on deep work and focus was all about.

This week, we’re diving into The Attentive Mindset.

Quote of the Week🔥

Knowledge isn’t free. You have to pay attention.
- Richard Feynman

Reflection 🤔

Take a quiet moment right now and ask yourself: Where in my life am I still hoping knowledge will arrive for free? Maybe it’s that course you half-listened to while checking emails, or the book you skimmed instead of massively powering through the entire thing. Those tiny moments of divided attention add up to a massive unpaid bill.

Where in your life are you hoping knowledge will arrive for free? Stop skimming books and half-listening to courses—it’s time to commit to deep learning. 📚

And, it’s not your fault. These days, everything around us is comprised of quick dopamine hits. TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, GTA6, sitcom reruns, you name it. And, those quick little dopamine hits continue to chip away at the armor of our attenion span, over and over again.

Choosing to pay attention isn’t about being “perfectly focused” every second. It’s about deciding that real growth comes from effortful engagement. This is where a true growth mindset shines: the belief that your ability to learn, understand, and create isn’t fixed, but expands every single time you choose to pay the full price of your attention. When you start treating focus as the investment it truly is, something powerful shifts. You begin to see challenges as opportunities to deepen your understanding instead of distractions to dodge.

It’s amazing how much better you can do when you're totally focused on one task—unlike this circus performer spinning 37 plates at once! 🤡 #CircusLife #Focus #PerformanceArt

When I first began writing the Wise Words Weekly newsletter, I thought it would be a good idea to play a YouTube video in the background, at the same time I was writing. The video would be of something I was interested in learning more about. My reasoning was it was a good idea to try to kill two birds with one stone and get twice as much done in half the time.

If you go back and read some of those first few newsletters, you will instantly see why that wasn’t such a great idea. Today, I begin writing and when I feel like it’s time to take a break, I watch a few minutes of a video that catches me up on the latest Tesla news. Then, I turn that off and begin typing again. It’s amazing how much better you can do something when you are totally focused on it rather than trying to mimic the circus clown who has 37 plates spinning on sticks!

Why This Can Be Your Superpower 🦸‍♂

Here’s the game-changer: when you learn how to master paying attention, you don’t just learn faster, you learn deeper. You spot connections others miss. You solve problems with clarity instead of confusion. In a world designed to fragment your focus, the ability to give undivided attention becomes your unfair advantage, your growth mindset in action.

Unlock your true potential: when you master your attention, you don't just learn faster—you learn deeper. Build your unfair advantage today. 🧠 #DeepLearning #GrowthMindset #Focus #CognitiveScience

Whether you’re leveling up at work, building a side project, or simply wanting to feel more alive in your own life, this attentive mindset turns ordinary effort into extraordinary results. It’s the difference between skimming the surface of knowledge and owning it completely. Richard Feynman’s advice on deep work and focus isn’t just philosophy, it’s your new daily superpower.

(By the way, if you aren’t sure where your growth mindset currently sits, before and after self-assessments are included in the Billionaire Growth Mindset Blueprint. There will be a link at the bottom of this newsletter. Keep reading.)

The Science Behind It 🔬

Neuroscience backs Feynman up completely. Recent meta-analyses show that active learning where you actively engage, question, and explain concepts improves performance by about half a standard deviation compared to traditional passive methods. In one landmark Harvard study, students in active-learning classrooms scored significantly higher on tests, even though many felt they had learned less (the classic illusion of passive consumption).

Neuroscience proves that active engagement—questioning and explaining—outperforms passive listening by a wide margin. 🚀

When you pay full attention, your brain releases neurotransmitters like acetylcholine that strengthen the exact neural pathways you’re building. Passive scrolling? It creates weak, easily forgotten connections. Active focus? It builds durable, flexible expertise. This is why the Feynman Technique and deliberate attention practices create such dramatic results, they literally rewire your brain for deeper understanding and faster growth

"The successful warrior is the average person with laser-like focus."

Stories That Bring It to Life 🧬

Picture Richard Feynman himself in the 1980s, investigating the Challenger disaster. While others reviewed reports and data tables, he paid ferocious attention to a single frozen O-ring in a glass of ice water. That one focused observation revealed the fatal flaw everyone else had missed. Pure proof that knowledge isn’t free.

Deep work vs. passive consumption: The Feynman Technique builds strong, reinforced neural pathways through active attention, while passive scrolling leads to forgotten connections. 💡

Or consider Chris Nikic, the first athlete with Down syndrome to complete an Ironman triathlon. He didn’t rely on motivation alone. He paid daily attention to tiny, deliberate improvements, one focused training session at a time, building the growth mindset that turned an “impossible” goal into reality.

Then there’s Rob Faldo, a regular guy who wanted to truly understand how the web works. Instead of passively watching tutorials, he applied the Feynman Technique: he broke everything down, explained each part in simple terms as if teaching a complete beginner, and kept refining until he could present the entire concept clearly to his girlfriend (who knew nothing about tech). In just five focused hours, he went from fuzzy knowledge to confident mastery, exactly the kind of active attention that turns information into real expertise.

These stories remind us that the price of wisdom is the same for Nobel physicists, aspiring athletes, and everyday learners: undivided attention, paid in full.

How To Start Today 🏃‍➡️

  1. Pick one concept you want to truly own this week.

  2. Use the Feynman Technique: Write it down, explain it simply (as if to a 12-year-old), spot where you get stuck, then go back and simplify until you can teach it flawlessly.

  3. Schedule two 25-minute “attention blocks” daily. No phone, no tabs, just full presence.

  4. End each block by asking: “What did I actually learn that I can now explain to someone else?”

Do this consistently and you’ll watch the price of wisdom transform from a burden into your greatest asset.

Concentrate all of your thoughts upon the work at hand. The suns ray’s do not burn until brought to focus.
